This article will assist you in removing an email address from the cPanel and setting up an email forward for that email address to another email address.
Example:
John leaves and no one will be checking the email address [email protected], however you would like for any emails that might be sent to John to go the Rebecca. In this case you need to set up an email forwarder in the hosting cPanel and then backup and remove Johns email account.
Setting up an email forward
Forwarders allow you to send a copy of all mail from one email address to another. For example, if you have two different email accounts, [email protected] and [email protected], you could forward [email protected] to [email protected] so that you do not need to check both accounts. Note that the forwarded mail will still be delivered to the original address as well if the mailbox exists.
- Log in to cPanel of the domain that you would like to forward. Go to yourdomainname.com.au/cpanel and login
- Under Mail click on Forwarders
- In the Forwarders window click on the Add Forwarder button
-
In the Add a New Forwarder window you need to
- Under Address add the email address that you that you wish to forward
- Under Destination add the email address that wish to have the above address forwarding to.
- Click on Add Forwarder
- Under Address add the email address that you that you wish to forward
- You will then be shown a window that explains the forward. Click on the Go Backbutton.
You have now created the email forward. Make sure that any forwarders that were also being sent to the old mailbox are recreated and the old forwarders and Deleted. Click on the Home button at the top left to go back to the cPanel home page.
Removing an email address
You will need to remove the email account in the cPanel once the email forwards are setup. If you only set up the email forward then all the emails will go to both the email accounts mailboxes and if, say from the example, John’s mailbox isn’t being checked then the emails will build up and can cause storage issues from your account if left unchecked. Before removing any email address from the cPanel please ensure that you have backed up all the emails. As the MyCloudHost mail service is a POP mail service, backing up of the emails are best done by using an email client, like Outlook, to download all the emails and then export them to a mail format, like a .pst file.
