This article will assist you in backing up and restores your website easily from your cPanel
Backing Up
- Log in to your cPanel by going to cpanel.yourwebsite.tld
NOTE: tld means top level domain for example; .com.au, .net.au, .com, etc…. - Once in the cPanel under Files click on Backup Wizard
- Click on Backup
- To be able to restore the backup you need to perform Partial Backup for each feature of the website.

Download the Home Directory
- Click on Home Directory
- To download the home directory click on the Home Directory button.
- Chose a location on your computer to save the compressed copy of the home directory (ensure you keep the format as *.tar) and click on Save
- Once that has downloaded click on the GO Back button
- Click on Home Directory

Download the MySQL Databases (if required)
- If you website has a Database click on MYSQL Databases
- Click on the Database names to download the database/s
- Chose a location on your computer to save the database (ensure you keep the format as *.SQL) and click on Save
- Once that has downloaded click on the GO Back button
- If you website has a Database click on MYSQL Databases
- The website is now backed up. You can click on the HOME button in the top right corner.
Restoring from backup
- Log in to your cPanel by going to cpanel.yourwebsite.tld
NOTE: tld means top level domain for example; .com.au, .net.au, .com, etc…. - Once in the cPanel under Files click on Backup Wizard
- Click on Restore
- This is the reason why you need to have backed up the different features of your website. Select the feature that you wish to restore.
- Click on Choose File to select the home directory you wish to restore.
- Select the *. Tar backup file and then click on Upload
- You will be advised that this has been uploaded. Then follow steps 4 – 6 for the SQL database, just ensure that you chose the *.sql file
Once these have been restored refresh your website and you should see the restored version of the site. If not you will need to clear your browser cache.
