Set up User Level Spam Filtering

We all how annoying spam is. This article will assist you in reducing the amount of spam that you receive, by making a few simple changes in your hosting control panel. It is a two-step process of enabling Spam Assassin (this is turn on by default on all mycloudhost hosting accounts) and then setting up a couple of user level filters on the email address accounts that are having an issue.

 

  • Log in to the cPanel with the details you were sent when setting up the account or contact mycloudhost by sending an email to [email protected]
  • Under Mail click on User
    Level
    Filtering
  • Click on the Manage Filters Link under Actions
  • Click on the Create a New Filter

 

  • To create a Spam filter please add the bello information
    1. Filter Name: Spam Filter
    2. Click on the + to be able to add two rules
    3. In the first rule choose “Spam
      Status” and “begins
      with,” then type “Yes” in the box.
    4. In the Second rule choose “Spam
      Bar” and “contains,” then type “+++++” in the box. (Note: If you wanted to match a spam score of 4, you would use ++++. A spam score of 3 would be +++, etc.)
    5. Under Actions choose Delivery to folder, click on Change and select Junk
    6. Click on Create
  • Once the Filter has been created you will be given a notification that it was successful
  • Click on Go
    Back at the bottom of the page
  • To test the filter please copy and paste the following and click on Test Filter

 

X-Spam-Status: Yes, score=23.6

X-Spam-Score: 236

X-Spam-Bar: +++++++++++++++++++++++

X-Spam-Report: Spam detection software, running on the system “server1.mycloudhost.com.au”, has

 

The test results should look like:

 

Save message to: /home/Domain/mail/Domain/emailfolder/.Junk/ 0660
Filtering set up at least one significant delivery or other action.
No other deliveries will occur.

 

This shows that the spam filter is moving spam emails to the junk folder.

 

Now you should no longer receive spam into your inbox.
